Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi (9 or 10 October 1813 – 27 January 1901) was an Italian Romantic composer primarily known for his operas. Today is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Giuseppi Verdi and in the early morning, courtesy of my iPhone and the WIFI set up by Nick (aka, Dutchman), I heard a moving performance of the Requiem and its stirring Dies Irae, a favorite of my son, coming up no fewer than three times in the piece.
***BANNER DAY*** on Giuseppi Verdi's 200th birthday for my mother. She took the steps, slowly, methodically, made it down the steps and to the first floor and then did something she has not done for a long time: removed her nasal cannula and respired on her own. She did marvelously.
We then transferred ambulatory devices and I pushed her around the first floor into the kitchen and then the addition. She got to look out the back door at the wet weather outside and ponder whether we'll have any grass in the backyard (probably not). Alleluia! On the same day, I heard an interview with this 18-year-old Canadian pianist, Jan Lisiecki, and he is fabulous. Just filled out the preplanning funeral form on the Mealey Funeral Homes web site and sent it on to Doug: http://www.mealeyfuneralhomes.com/preplanning_form.html Dad is listening, at this moment, to the Verdi overture to I Vespri Siciliani and tells me that the CD #2 in the 3-CD set of Toscanini at La Scala is messed up. http://www.youtube.com/watchv=ay6-vpOlEqk |
