June 1st, 2009

Another disappointing morning where I was unable to get up early to walk Dancer or stretch or decide on why to get out of bed, rather than listen to the radio, SC, and the early morning programs of Morning Edition (5-9 a.m.), The Takeaway (9-10 a.m.: with co-host John Hockenberry), and my favorite host/commentator/facilitator Tom Ashbrook with OnPoint (10 a.m. - 12 noon). Yes, that is my entire morning and then it's up, rubbing my oily head which requires a shampoo and bath (one reason to get out of bed in the morning), making a breakfast without cereal/banana (a staple) due to my need to get to Kroger and food shop (another reason to rise).

I did phone and leave messages with Laura Beltran (spoke with her husband, I think, who gave me the number to her work at the nature preserve in Columbia County, a Martinez address -- off Fury's Ferry Road near West Lake -- where the board walk has been completed and welcomes visitors). I phoned the nature preserve and got Laura's voice message and left mine. I should go out there today (another reason to get out of bed today) and try to speak with her about this opening I heard about at church yesterday: Raes Creek educator.

Called Ernie George's residence and his son from Oregon, Doug, answered (he was to leave in an hour to go back, a daughter will be arriving soon to assist Dan, who has taken on the bulk of caring for their father over the passed months) and told me that Ernie had a major problem with swelling in his leg, possibly due to a ruptured aneurysm but that he had a walker and an assisted wheelchair (I think) to help him get around the house. (Ernie was an avid golfer till about a year ago when knee surgery was ruled out of the question due to his heart.) This week they go to see an oncologist about possible cancer in his leg (what Jerry Goldman mentioned in his candle to Ernie at church yesterday's service, one dedicated to the gentle poet, humanitarian, and naturalist Hoyt Goodson). I left a message to give him my best and to please call if any help was required. Ernie is a wonderful human being with nothing but goodwill for others he meets and is committed to through his church work.

I go now to bathe and then food shop and then nature preserve explore and then walk my Dancer and then go to the "Y" and stretch, walk, lift some and shower.
